Multilingual LMS

One learning platform, in your learners' language

Run the same courses in English and Welsh, English and Canadian French, or up to nine languages side by side. Learners pick their language once and the whole experience follows: menus, emails and certificates, plus course content you have translated with AI.

What is a multilingual LMS?

A multilingual LMS shows the learner-facing site, notifications and certificates in each learner's chosen language, and lets you offer the same course in more than one language without building it twice. Continuum Learn supports nine languages (English, Welsh, French, Canadian French, German, Spanish, Italian, Dutch and Portuguese), and learners can switch between them at any time.

In Continuum Learn an admin picks a default language and ticks which other languages learners may use. A language switcher then appears in the site header and on the sign-in page, and each learner's choice is remembered on their account. Navigation, the course catalogue, dashboards, quizzes, system emails and certificates all follow it, and dates and numbers are formatted the local way.

Your own content can follow too. Courses are tagged with a language and learners can filter the catalogue by it. Signup form fields, course folders, presenter bios and certificate wording each take a version per language, with a Translate with AI button that drafts the text for you to check. Whole courses can be translated lesson by lesson with AI and edited side by side with the source, so a Welsh learner and an English learner take the same course, with one set of results and one certificate record.

Welsh organisations use this to offer learning in Cymraeg (see our Welsh language LMS page), and Canadian organisations use it to run English and Québec French together. See how it fits a member training LMS or non-profit online learning, or browse all features.

Why teams choose a multilingual LMS

Offer learning in more than one language without running two platforms or copying every course.

Learners choose their language

A header switcher lets each learner move between the languages you enable. Their choice follows them from sign-in to certificate.

AI translation, human control

Translate with AI drafts course content and team text in each language. You review and edit every string before learners see it.

One course, many languages

Add languages to an existing course instead of duplicating it, so enrolments, progress, quiz results and certificates stay in one place.

Emails and certificates localised

System notifications go out in each learner's language, and certificates are issued in the language the learner was using when they earned them.

Who uses a bilingual or multilingual LMS

Organisations in Wales

Offer staff, members or the public the same e-learning in Welsh and English, with a Cymraeg interface, Welsh catalogue filtering and Welsh certificates. <a href="/welsh-language-lms">Read about the Welsh language LMS</a>.

Canadian English and French training

Run one site in English and Canadian French. fr-CA is a separate language with its own Québec-style AI glossary (courriel, téléverser), not a copy of France French.

European and international teams

Train people across the UK and Europe in English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Dutch or Portuguese from a single branded academy.

Multilingual features, end to end

Language is part of the platform, not a browser plug-in that translates the page on the fly

Per-team language settings

Choose a default language and the languages learners can switch to under Manage > Settings > General. Teams that enable nothing stay single-language.

Language switcher everywhere learners go

Switch language from the site header or the sign-in page. The choice is saved to the learner's account and used for their emails as well.

Course language and catalogue filter

Every course carries a language. Learners can filter the catalogue by language, and courses with translations show every language they are available in.

AI course translation

Turn a language on for a course and translate every lesson with AI. Text, lists, accordions, flashcards and quiz questions are translated in place, and the HTML structure is checked so nothing breaks.

Side-by-side translation editor

Review the source and the translation lesson by lesson, fix any wording, and see which lessons are complete, missing or out of date after you change the source.

Translated team content

Signup form fields and their options, course folders, presenter titles and bios, programme certificate titles and certificate wording all take a version per language.

Certificates in the learner's language

Course and programme certificates are rendered in the language the learner used, and the issued wording is frozen so later edits never change it.

Localised SCORM and embedded courses

SCORM exports and courses <a href="/embed-courses-on-your-website">embedded on your website</a> carry the player's interface text in the course language, and a translated course can be exported per language.

Pages per language

Create a language version of a site page and learners are served the version that matches their language, falling back to the default.

Frequently asked questions

Is there an LMS that supports the Welsh language?

Yes. Continuum Learn has a full Welsh (Cymraeg) learner interface, and Welsh can be the team's default language. See the Welsh language LMS page for the details, including the Welsh Language Standards.

Can I run the same course in English and Welsh without building it twice?

Yes. You add Welsh as a language on the existing course rather than copying it. Lessons are translated in place, and learners who choose Welsh see the Welsh version, with any untranslated text falling back to the source language. Enrolments, progress, quiz results and certificates stay attached to the one course.

Which languages does Continuum Learn support?

Learners can use English, Welsh, French, Canadian French (fr-CA), German, Spanish, Italian, Dutch and Portuguese (European). Each team chooses its default language and which of these its learners may switch to. Right-to-left languages such as Arabic and Hebrew are not currently offered.

Is there a bilingual English and French LMS for Canada?

Continuum Learn treats Canadian French as its own language, separate from France French. Its AI translation follows a Québec glossary (for example courriel for email and téléverser for upload), and English and Canadian French learners can share one site and one set of courses.

Does Continuum Learn translate courses with AI?

Yes. Admins can translate a course's lessons, module and lesson titles and quiz questions into each enabled language with AI, then review every string in a side-by-side editor. Short team text such as signup fields, course folder names, presenter bios and certificate wording has its own Translate with AI button. AI output is a first draft; you approve what learners see.

Are emails and certificates sent in the learner's language?

System notifications, such as enrolment and certificate emails, are sent in each learner's chosen language, and certificates are issued in the language the learner was using, with that wording frozen at the time of issue. Custom email templates you design yourself are currently single-language.

Is the admin area translated too?

No. Multilingual support covers the learner-facing side: the catalogue, courses, dashboards, sign-in, emails and certificates. The admin areas for building courses and managing the team are in English, apart from the language settings themselves.
